Food for Thought

01

Veterans become more at risk with strained relationships, leading to difficulty landing jobs.

02

Treat homeless veterans with respect, not pity; they are people with a lot of potential.

03

Many veterans are homeless because of the gap between military service and becoming a civilian (being given everything in the military makes it hard to become a civilian).

04

Some programs don't match the individual issue each homeless veteran has (i.e. some housing programs are strictly rehab, but those who are clean and sober have nowhere to go because they don't need rehab).

05

According to the V.A., only group work can solve this issue and partnerships are extremely valuable.

06

In a PBS Newshour video, a veteran said the "Biggest challenge is the guy who yells 'get a job'...the people who just don't see you, you feel invisible and its the most horrid thing in the world not to be recognized or acknowledged. People don't want to see you and pretend it doesn't exist."
