OPERATION HOMELESS
VETERANS
Homeless Veterans Charities
Disabled American Veterans (DAV)
The DAV helps veterans and their families gain access to all the benefits they qualify for. VOA.org reports that “in 2017, DAV helped attain more than $4 billion in new and retroactive benefits to care for veterans, their families, and survivors!”
U.S.Vets
U.S.Vets helps struggling veterans, 9/11 responders, and veteran families to get back on their feet. According to VOA.org, “U.S.Vets is the nation’s largest nonprofit provider of comprehensive services to homeless and at-risk veterans.” They also work to help with employment and substance-free housing.
Village for Vets
Village for Vets is an organization focusing on homeless veterans by serving as a stepping-stone to receive aid. All their locations are on VA grounds or with other prestigious organizations that help veterans find assistance. They provide food for homeless veterans as well as monetary assistance, on top of many other programs and services.
New Directions for Veterans
New Directions for Veterans has two transitional housing units and 12 permanent housing units in Los Angeles County and Orange County, supporting the country’s highest population of homeless veterans. NDV is proud to report that “Veterans leave NDVets with a savings account, housing, a job or other income, computer skills, renewed self-confidence and the support of mentors and peers” (New Directions for Veterans).
Homes for Our Troops
Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) builds accessible homes for impaired veterans after 9/11. HFOT doesn’t just stop at housing though--they also teach veterans valuable skills to be successful in life, such as managing finances and homeowner’s education. They also create a support group consisting of other HFOT families to help support these veterans after they move into their new home.
Operation Homefront
Operation Homefront uses monetary donations to help struggling military families get through issues they face to prevent them from getting larger. They help pay bills, provide mortgage-free housing and support groups, and stay involved in military families’ lives to provide assistance along the way.
